SABLE® is an acronym for Standardised Approach to Borehole Logging for Exploration. This became the trade mark for a methodology which has delivered useable, reliable data to large producing mines for more than thirty years.
SABLE® combines geological, mining and software ‘know how’ and IP into trusted methods which produce a bullet-proof database containing useable data which has integrity.
THE SABLE® PROMISE
We ensure the successful delivery of data integrity and data quality assurance through:
1. Our SPD (SABLE® Project Definition) which is a customisable schema composed of data structures, data conventions, validations and scripts. This ‘data standard’ is held as open metadata within our databases. The advantages of this are:
Quality assurance against these rules which define the client’s data sets accurately
User-configurable ‘active’ validations/checks during and after data capture
All data management functionality is integrated through these rules
The same metadata can be managed across separate databases and database platform.
2. The data standard is independent of the database structure. Standardisation of terminology is key to data integrity. This means:
The dictionaries can be updated over time to upgrade the data quality within and across the entire database; and that ‘ungoverned external’ data migrated into SABLE® from other databases can be upgraded into the preferred standard.
This allows the same data standard to be governed across separate databases.
The same parameter in different data sets is subject to the same rules.
3. Due to this flexibility, SABLE® is agile and have a database prototyping tool during implementations.
The system can be continuously improved after initial sign off as geoscientific understanding improves at our sites.
The first two versions of SABLE® were originally developed by Marcia van Aswegen in the 1980’s at a time when the main applications were gold and coal within South Africa. With the advent of Windows and a database engine for PCs during the early 1990’s, development was undertaken by Russian software engineers and programmers for a period of 15 years. In this time, three versions of SABLE® were produced, namely SABLE® Data 1, SABLE® Data 2.0 and SABLE® Data Warehouse.
From 2013 to 2018, SABLE® changed its core developers from Russians to South Africans. The new team published SABLE®2016 and began re-architecting the code for the Microsoft® Windows 10 platform making SABLE® ‘cross-hardware’ capable. This new iteration allows the move from portable to mobile platforms.
Our latest version, SABLE® 7, offers custom modules for a variety of devices including Android, iOs and Microsoft, which are available on request. Our team also works directly with clients to identify and develop common, generic mobile applications for general use.
